Brendan Gebler, MA

I grew up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh and after leaving home for a number of years I am honored to have an opportunity to return to the area to work with and support my neighbors.

I attended Duquesne University for my undergraduate degree and went on to my Master’s in Psychology at nearby Chatham University.  After completing my doctoral coursework at Chatham, I attended my doctoral internship at Lehigh University Counseling and Psychological Services.  Currently I am in the process of completing my dissertation research in order to complete my doctoral degree.  My doctoral practicum provided me with an opportunity to learn from and work with Dr. Weingarden at UPMC’s Western Psychiatric Hospital (WPH).  I have also worked in hospital settings, college counseling settings, and addictions settings.

I believe that my clients are the experts of their lives who utilize therapy to heroically work to grow into improved versions of themselves. I encourage my clients to engage in non-judgemental self-reflection so that they may view themselves through a more compassionate lens and ultimately resolve their inner turmoil.  While I have received training in many modalities, including CBT, DBT, and ACT, my work is primarily grounded in Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy.  Through IFS, I encourage clients to see the various aspects of their personalities as a system of parts.  Rather than trying to eliminate seemingly troublesome parts, I work with clients to curiously and compassionately gain a clearer perspective of this system in the service of helping the various parts do their jobs better.
